What is a Treatment Plan?

Your dental treatment plan is a comprehensive analysis of the current state of your dental health as well as the treatment that is needed to ensure the longevity of both your teeth and gums.

In order to create your treatment plan, your dentist will first have a full set of dental x-rays completed. These x-rays will be used to examine bone levels, the positioning of the teeth, any  damage or decay that can not be detected by a visual examination and check of any bone/teeth abnormalities.

After your dentist has evaluated your x-rays, he or she will complete a thorough examination inside the mouth. During this part of your exam, they will search for any further signs of damage, abnormalities and confirm that there are no signs of oral cancer. If there are any lesions or abnormalities present, your dentist will take note and immediately take action.

Your gums will also be examined to determine if there are any signs of Periodontal(gum) disease; a dental tool known as a probe will be used to measure the space between the tooth and the gum. This space is known as the periodontal pocket; if the pockets of the teeth measure more than 4mm,the dentist will then determine the best course of treatment for you.

Once your examination is complete, your dentist will discuss their findings with you and take into consideration any issues you may have.. Give you options with pros/cons to help you determine the best course of treatment for you.

You will be given a full outline of what your dentist recommends to be done, a timeline of how the work can and should be completed, and a price estimation that will help you decide how you can financially move forward with the treatment you need.

Why Was I Given a Treatment Plan?

Your dentist’s greatest priority is to help you achieve a beautiful and healthy smile and to help you keep this healthy mouth for as long as possible..

Your treatment plan is a personalized approach to the treatment you need, broken down and customized to fit your financial and personal needs.

You were given a dental treatment plan to ensure that you are able to approach your needed treatment as an equal partner; the main goal is to inform you about the treatment, how it will benefit you, and how it can be achieved.

During your consultation with your dentist, you have the opportunity to ask questions, give your opinion on the approach taken, and put plans into motion for taking steps towards a healthy smile.

What’s Next?

Once you have discussed your treatment plan in detail, you can choose to move forward with your treatment in a way that works for both your budget and your lifestyle. You’ll soon be on your way to achieving your healthiest and most beautiful smile.
